How to get mildew/ mud smell out of sneakers?
I went montain biking and some of it was through some heavy mud and my sneakers got covered in mud so i washed them off with soap and hot water but they still smelled bad ( i really scrubed them too.) the sneakers look clean the smell just hasn't come out so I put them in the sun for about 1 hour but they still smell like muddy mildew. Any suggestion on how to get this smell out? thanks!

- Have you tried baking soda? A small amount in them over night will usually do the trick...
- apple vinegar smells nasty but when it dissipates it take the other smell with it.
- Baby powder/febreeze can cover up the smell and decrease the sweat your shoe absorbs....however, the smell will never really go away. And as soon as you stop masking the smell, it'll come back. Best bet - just get a new pair of shoes.
- Get new
- Kristy is right, Baking soda will remove the odour, and you could also place a fabric softener sheet in each of the sneakers
- If they are bad enough to throw away if you can't get the smell out, one last thing I would do before that is to soak them in some bleach water. Bleach is good for killing mildew. Hopefully it won't take any color out. And also after they are dry spray them with Lysol spray and then leave them in the sun a whole day.
