How do I get dried mud out of my clothes?

I havent washed them yet, just letting them soak in laundry detergent and cold water. Already tried rubbing all the dirt out but it's still stained. Help..I love these shorts.

  1. Buy some oxy soaker
  2. hi First is it just dirt or red clay? If it is clay you may never get it out, I know our Bama clay or red dirt is permanent, I take it these shorts are not white. You can try using some SHOUT stain remover, if that doesn't work make a thick paste of water and table salt and rub that into the stain. Main thing DO NOT place in the dryer until you know the stain is completely out.You can also try using Clorox 2 for colors. Good Luck
  3. When you get mud on your pants you should first let it dry, then it can brush right off. From there, just spray some "Shout" on it, or rub on some extra detergent to the area. Wash it in a warm water cycle. Check on it halfway through the wash. If it's still there rub some rubbing alcohol on it and then rinse the spot with cold water and throw it back in the wash. It should come out good as new =)
  4. Hmmn, wonder what kind of dirt you managed to sit in?? You are on the right track, a wet stain can set up, so start by getting everything you can see rubbed away. I would try a couple of things, first of all a bar of Sunlight Soap is still one of the best items out there, if you can get it Ban it is a close second, both will work on dirt, have for years. Then wash as usual, if it's not out don't dry them, that will set the stain for sure. A softener of some sort like baking soda paste or Borax may also work....and failing that one of the Oxi products. I think the Sunlight will win, but there's always Spray and Wash or one of the other stain removers like Winning Colours. Lastly, let them dry in the Sun, it's still natures stain fighter....Good luck.
  5. use dish soap instead of laundry soap! it really works.
  6. pre wash in hot water and dawn dish washing 1/2 cup will work then wash again in your regular detergent [ all of this in the washer]
  7. When I wash my kids muddy clothes from the river, I put 1 cup of baking soda in the wash water and 1/2 cup white vinegar in the rinse. Sometimes I have to do it twice but it comes out. Make sure you wash with cold water as to not set the stain. Despite popular belieef, it is a very bad idea. Hot water is for sanitizing your clothes.
